COSMETIC DENTISTRY - Porcelain Veneers

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain VeneersPorcelain veneers are an important tool for the cosmetic dentist in order to help you achieve your perfect smile. Cosmetic Dentists use porcelain veneers to improve fractured or discolored teeth, smaller teeth, fractured or misshapen teeth, to close up gaps in your smile, and to improve the overall appearance of your teeth by improving color, symmetry, and more. When teeth are chipped or beginning to wear, porcelain veneers can protect them from damage and restore their appearance.

Porcelain veneers are thin shells made of porcelain that are bonded onto the front of teeth. A porcelain veneer generally covers only the front and top of a tooth.  Porcelain is an excellent material for veneers because it is harder than tooth enamel and is very long lasting. The Cosmetic Dentists at Barrington Dental Care™™ have worked with porcelain veneers for many years, and are able to not only help you achieve your optimal tooth color, but artistically form the shape of your teeth. An additional benefit to porcelain veneers is their ability to battle stains. Porecelain is naturally resistant to the stains you encounter in everyday eating.

How Does Barrington Dental Care™™ Restore Teeth with Porcelain Veneers?

It takes two or more appointments to restore teeth with porcelain veneers.  During the first appointment, we shape and roughen the teeth.  We then take impressions for your teeth, which we use to make precise working models of your mouth.  It’s on these models that we artistically craft porcelain veneers to fit the prepared teeth.

During the second appointment we clean and polish the prepared teeth.  Then we use an adhesive to bond the porcelain veneers to the teeth.  A harmless, high-intensity light hardens the adhesive.  Once in place, porcelain veneers virtually become part of the teeth.  You can use them like you would your own teeth, because the bond is extremely strong, The final result is beautiful and natural looking teeth.
